Feng Shui Bagua for Studio Apartment: One 3x3 Grid

By FengShui Hero Editorial · · 10 min read

We check classical bagua, five-element, and placement guidance against what the FengShui Hero iOS camera analysis flags in real rooms.

Daylight studio from the front door: bed on the far wall, kitchenette, wood table, feng shui bagua for studio apartment

Feng Shui bagua for a studio apartment is one 3x3 on the rectangle you unlock. Pick Black Hat (door-based) or compass, tape once, and skip nine lucky corners.

Feng Shui bagua for a studio apartment is one 3x3 overlay on the single rectangle you rent, lined up from the door you unlock. You pick Black Hat (door-based) or compass, not both. The grid is a classroom map on one room. It does not pay rent. Nine lucky corners are a shop list.

When we photograph studio maps, the tape is already a knot: a grid on the floor and another sketched on the duvet. Wealth is a plant at the window and a magnet on the freezer. The latch still hits a drying rack. People ask which lucky corner owns the hot plate. We ask them to stand at the door they unlock and look at one box. This page is that overlay for a home renter in one room. The bagua map page is how a 3x3 is drawn and how the two schools disagree. The small apartment guide is zones, the door, and one bed, without requiring a map. Open floor plan bagua is a kitchen-living volume with no interior walls, often larger than a studio and sometimes with rooms off a hall.

How do you draw one bagua on a studio?

Start with a tape measure on the two walls that meet at your latch. Write length and width. The rectangle is the studio you pay for: the sleep wall, the kitchenette strip, and the bath if that box sits inside those walls. The corridor outside your door is the building. It is not your bagua.

If a sleeping alcove makes a second leg, stop. That plan is two rectangles that share a door. Map a simple box, or treat the L as two rectangles and come back only for the one-grid rule.

Stand inside. Close the door. Face in as if you just arrived with groceries. For Black Hat, the wall behind you is the bottom of the square. Divide each side into thirds. The far-left third from where you stand is one cell. The bath may sit in that cell because the stack is in the corner. That is a pipe.

Low-tack tape on the floor is how a renter draws the overlay. Run two lines that cut the floor into thirds each way. Duct tape will mark vinyl. If the deposit makes you nervous, draw the same 3x3 on a paper plan on the table.

Live with the lines until you walk them without thinking. The center cell is often the only place you can carry a pan. Leave it empty of "earth" piles. You still need that path.

Painter tape making a 3x3 grid on a studio wood floor with the door at the bottom

The door sits at the bottom of that photo. If your floor looks like this, the overlay is done. Do not add a second grid on the duvet.

What already sits in the nine cells?

From the latch, the kitchenette is usually a side wall because that is where the water is. The bed is on the far wall because that is the only wall long enough. The bath door is in a corner. The map is naming furniture you cannot relocate.

Walk each cell and say what is there. Door wall: shoes, maybe a slim desk. Middle: the walk and a table. Far wall: the bed. One corner: the bath. You are done naming. Adding a shrine to each cell is how a small floor dies.

A closet will hold two labels. That is normal on a studio. Hang coats. Do not hang two "enhancers" on the same rail.

Where does sleep go after you tape?

Put the bed on a solid wall if you have one. See the latch from the pillow if the room allows it. That is sleep. It is not a gua assignment.

Do not slide the bed into the wealth cell because a blog named that cell. Do not put the pillow under a window because the far wall was labeled fame. A window at your head is a draft and a glare. The small apartment page already owns command, the walk, and covering a desk at night. Borrow that. Do not turn this overlay into a second layout article.

Do not stack nine shrines. In a studio each cell is already a chair, a burner, a mattress, or a toilet. Add one object if you still want a reminder. Add none if the walk already shows which third you meant.

Door-based map or compass in one room?

Pick one school. Write the name on the paper plan. Live with it for a month.

Black Hat (door-based) is the classroom overlay people also call BTB or Western. The wall that has the entrance you unlock is the bottom of the square. As you look in, knowledge is bottom left, career is bottom middle, helpful people is bottom right. The far-left cell is the one lists call wealth. You do not need a compass. The bagua map article keeps the full label list. This page only needs you to line that list up on one studio rectangle.

Compass bagua puts the same names on compass walls. North is career in that school. Southeast is wealth. They disagree with Black Hat on a small floor even faster than they disagree in a house, because every wall is close. Mixed together they put "wealth" on two sides of the same closet.

A phone compass against a fridge, a radiator, or a steel door frame will spin. Step to the middle of the room, away from the kitchenette metal. If the needle will not settle, skip compass for this month.

Do not average. Averaging is how the bath becomes career on Monday and wealth on Tuesday depending on which screenshot is open.

Which latch is the mouth?

Use the door you unlock with your key. That is the mouth of a studio.

A balcony slider you never open is glass with a lock. Map from the hall door. A fire-escape panel you are not allowed to block is egress. It is not a second bagua door.

The building entry downstairs belongs to every neighbor. Your grid begins at your latch, facing into the room you rent.

If you keep the "front" door bolted and come in through a side kitchen door most days, the kitchen door is the mouth. Map from the door you actually use.

Compass school still wants true directions even when the latch is on the south wall. That is fine if the reading is stable. Choose.

What if the bathroom lands in the wealth cell?

Let it land. Plumbing likes corners. Black Hat wealth is the far left from the door. Compass wealth is southeast. A studio bath is often both a corner and a stack. So the toilet sits in a cell that blogs call money.

What you have is a toilet. Close the lid. Close the door. Keep the floor dry. Run the fan if there is one. Wipe fog so the bath does not smell into the bed. That is hygiene. It is not a wealth drain you must crystal.

You will not move the bath. Do not plan demolition. Do not ask the landlord to relocate a soil pipe so a gua can be empty. Coins on the tank are clutter you will knock into the bowl. A plant on the tank is optional if the light is real and the pot cannot fall. It does not plug a paycheck.

Studio bathroom door in a far corner with the bed and kitchenette still in view

That bath door is still inside the same studio rectangle as the bed and the kitchenette. One grid covers all three. A second map on the bath mat is how you get two wealth stories and a wet towel in the walk.

What if wealth is the kitchenette instead?

Then you have dishes in that third of the floor. Clear the counters you can see from the latch. The burner is still a burner. You need the sink. Keep it usable.

If wealth is a window, a plant you can water there is a plant. A purple cushion will not raise rent money. If wealth is the closet, hang clothes you wear. Do not store a broken vacuum there because a list said wood belongs in that cell.

Skip flying-star year charts on a studio cell. That is another school, with a year number this page will not assign.

One grid or furniture zones in a studio?

Use one overlay if you want a map. Use furniture jobs if you do not.

A rug under the bed marks sleep. A table marks eating or a laptop. Those zones work without classroom names. The small apartment guide is that job: door, bed, path. If you already sleep, walk, and close the bath, you may not need the tape.

If you keep the tape, do not restart the grid at the bed legs. House tutorials will tell you to bagua the bed as its own room. A studio bed is furniture inside the only room. One overlay. Do not bagua the sofa separately, even if the sofa is also the bed. Do not give the kitchenette its own nine squares. That is how wealth ends up on the freezer and on the pillow.

Open floor plan bagua is the cousin problem for a larger volume: kitchen and sofa in one air, sometimes bedrooms down a hall. A studio is smaller and complete. There is no rest of the home to map later. The rectangle you unlock is the whole job.

After the labels exist, you should still reach the fridge without turning sideways, and you should still see the latch from the pillow if the walls allow it. Labels that argue with those tests lose. Move the chair.

What this is not

This is not the small-apartment layout article. That page is how to zone sleep and sit, how the door must open, and how one bed takes a solid wall. This page is the map on that same rectangle.

This is not an L-shaped apartment. An L is two rectangles. If your studio has a real second leg, do not force one luck square onto a plan that is not a square.

This is not open-plan multi-room work. An open kitchen-living volume with rooms off a hall is a different size of problem, even when the air is shared.

This is not a luck map. Classroom labels will not rank a lease. A 3x3 will not raise income. A toilet is still a toilet.

This is not a flying-star year, and it is not a reason to knock out a bath wall. It is not nine lucky corners with a shopping list.

Skip medical claims about mold or drains as a diagnosis. If the bath stays wet and the room smells, you dry it because you sleep in the smell. See a clinician if you have a health question.

Skip "experts say the southeast toilet steals abundance." Nobody measured your paycheck against that corner. A closed lid is enough reason.

A simple evening checklist

Do this in order. Stop when you have one map or zero maps, and a bed on a wall that does not wobble.

  1. Measure the studio rectangle. Write length and width. Exclude the building corridor. Include the kitchenette. Include the bath only if it sits inside that box.
  2. Pick Black Hat (door-based) or compass. Write the choice. If the phone will not settle, Black Hat is the kinder rental default.
  3. Tape once (or draw once on paper). Door you unlock at the bottom for Black Hat. No second grid on the bed.
  4. Put sleep on a solid wall. See the latch if you can. Do not chase a label into a window or into the kitchenette.
  5. Do not stack nine shrines. Name what already sits in each cell. Add at most one object, or add none.
  6. Photograph from the latch in FengShui Hero. Compare the flagged clutter with the drying rack you still kick.

If you share the studio, agree which door counts. Two mouths is how two maps start.

If you only do one thing tonight, photograph from the latch in FengShui Hero, then look at the photo before you buy tape. Decide whether a 3x3 would tell you anything the walk does not. If the first object is a rack in the swing, the map can wait. If the first object is extra printouts, take them up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you bagua a studio apartment?

Measure the one rectangle you rent, including the kitchenette strip and the bath if it sits inside those walls. Pick Black Hat (door-based) or compass, not both. Tape one 3x3 from the door you unlock, put sleep on a solid wall, and stop. Do not add nine objects to nine cells.

Should you use a door-based map or a compass in a studio?

Pick one school and write it on the paper plan. Black Hat lines the bottom row on the wall of the latch you turn. Compass uses real directions on the same rectangle, and a phone next to a fridge often lies. Averaging both puts two wealth stories on one closet.

Where is the wealth corner in a studio?

On a Black Hat map it is the far-left cell as you stand at the door looking in. On a compass map it is the southeast third of the same floor. In a studio that cell is often a window, a closet, a kitchenette, or the bath. The name is a classroom label that does not describe income.

What if the bathroom is in the wealth cell?

Leave the bath where the plumber put it. Close the lid, close the door, keep the floor dry, and skip coins on the tank. You cannot relocate a toilet to complete a gua. A plant on the tank is taste and does not plug a paycheck.

Is one bagua grid better than furniture zones in a studio?

Use one overlay if you want a map at all. A rug under the bed is not a second bagua, and the table is not a third. If you only need sleep, a walk, and a door that opens, skip the grid and zone with furniture you already own. Two maps on one studio will argue.

Can renters tape a studio bagua without damaging the floor?

Low-tack painter tape on wood or vinyl comes up. Skip duct tape and skip tape on a painted wall if the deposit worries you. A paper plan on the table is the same 3x3 if the floor cannot take tape. Do not nail a bagua plaque into plaster.

How does FengShui Hero help with a studio bagua?

Photograph from the latch in the iOS app. The scan flags clutter and a blocked opening. Use this article to decide whether you even need a 3x3 on that same photo, then apply one school or none. It will not print a flying-star chart.
