A feng shui furnished rental is a lease that already includes a sofa, a bed, and a table. You diagnose that inventory against the sheet, then reverse only what you can shift, hide, or pad without dumping the landlord's pieces or treating leftover luck as real.
When we photograph furnished move-ins, the listing still shows a styled queen and the room we get is a sofa parked in the latch swing plus a dining set nobody uses. People ask which crystal clears the last tenant. We open the inventory, open the door to 90 degrees, then sit on their bed. This page is that audit. The first week rental article is three moves when the boxes are yours. The renter guide is the portable catalog. Rental furniture is felt and fold on pieces you buy. This URL is landlord inventory you still have to live with. Wikipedia's feng shui page still splits Form (shape you can rest in) from Compass overlays. Form goes first here.
How we check a furnished rental
We start with paper, not a bagua printout. Find the inventory in the lease pack or the move-in email. Walk the unit with that list in hand. Tick each sofa, bed, table, chair, lamp, and TV stand you can name. Photograph every piece on day one, including the underside of a sofa and the head wall. If a listed item is missing, write it before you rearrange anything.
Then we stand at the door you actually unlock, not the facade in the listing. Open it fully. Name the pizza slice of the swing. If a landlord sofa, a console, or a dining chair lives in that slice, write "blocks the mouth" next to that line. Form School still cares whether a body can enter. A southeast sticker will not un-block a latch.
Then we sit where they sat. Sofa first: can you see the door you just used, and is your back a wall or a hall. Then the bed. Lie on their mattress, both sides if two people sleep. Can you name the bedroom latch without sitting up. The bed and door check already asks that. Their frame still has to pass it.
Walk with grocery bags from the latch to the fridge and from the bed to the bath. If you turn sideways, a piece failed even though you did not buy it. Write which check failed: missing from the sheet, swing, command, or walk. Felt under feet before you slide anything on floors you do not own. If house rules freeze the layout, skip the slide and use hide and pad.
Can you move furniture in a furnished rental?
A feng shui furnished rental check is an inventory job you finish tonight: match the sheet, open the door you use, sit on their sofa, lie on their bed, then mark shift, hide, or leave. You may rearrange inside the unit when the lease allows it. You may not take listed pieces out of the apartment without written yes.
Renter blogs often say "just move the sofa." That advice assumes the sofa is yours. Furnished leases treat the set as part of the unit. A CORT note on furnished apartments says rearrange is usually fine if you do not damage the place, and that removal needs a landlord check. A Calgary rental guide on removing furniture is blunter: listed items stay unless you have written consent, and a curb pile can become a deduction.
Read your own lease. Some short-stay rules freeze the layout. If that is the contract, hide, pad, and keep the walk. Do not treat a blog as permission.
If you may shift a piece, photograph it, stick felt on bare feet, slide it off the swing, open the door to 90 degrees, walk with bags, then photograph the new layout for move-out. A bolted or plumbed built-in is not furniture you shift. Use it as it already works.

That sheet is the first object this article wants in your hand. If the paper and the room disagree, stop and write the miss before you slide a sofa.
What if the landlord sofa blocks the door?
The sofa is the usual miss. Listing photographers push it toward the latch so the window looks bigger. You live with the swing they hid.
Sit on it. If your back is the door, the seat failed command. If the arm sits in the pizza slice, the mouth failed. Those are two marks. Fix the swing first. A body has to enter before a seat can command.
Slide the sofa along the wall that is not the latch wall until the door opens fully and a grocery-bag shoulder still fits. You do not need a diagonal "for chi." You need the leaf at 90 degrees. The form school page is the shape test: solid back, open front, walk that is not a corridor. Use that test on their sofa. Do not overlay a map until the latch works.
If the sofa is too heavy, or the lease forbids a slide, keep the remaining slot empty. Their sofa is already the large object. A folding screen only helps if the sofa back faces a hall you cannot change, and only if the screen stays off the walk. A throw does not open a stuck door. Leave the sofa when the walk is already clear and you can see the latch from the seat. Extra slides scratch floors.
Store a piece off-site only with written yes. Some landlords will hold a bed if you ask before move-in. Get the email. Without that paper, the sofa stays even if you hate the fabric.
| Piece | In-unit shift | Hide or pad | Leave as-is | Off-site |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sofa in the door swing | Slide off the pizza slice, felt on the feet | Do not add a second rack in the remaining slot | If the leaf already opens 90 degrees | Only with written yes |
| Dining set in the walk | Pull to a wall you do not need as a path | Tablecloth is taste, not a layout fix | If you actually eat there | Only with written yes |
| TV stand blocking a pane | Pull if it is free-standing | Cover the screen at night if it faces the sofa nap | If it is a bolted media wall | No |
| Console in the latch slice | Inner end of the wall, hip-clear | Keys in one dish, not a mail cliff | If the swing already clears it | No |

That walk is the pass. Full open. Shoulder-width. Their sofa can stay. It just cannot own the first meter. Sofa placement is float versus wall when the sofa is yours to aim. This URL only asks whether their sofa may sit where the photographer left it.
Where does the listing bed go if it cannot leave?
Treat the listing bed as the bed you sleep on. Command does not care who paid for the frame.
Lie where you will sleep. Can you see the bedroom door? Are your feet on a straight line with that latch? Head on a solid wall if the room has one. A window behind the pillow is a later bedroom problem. Tonight, take a wall if you can.
If the frame is light enough, slide it. Keep a walk to the closet and the bath. Do not trade hall command for a prettier window. The bed facing door article is the coffin line on that latch. Use it after the inventory says the bed is yours to shift.
If the frame is a heavy hotel box, or the lease parks it on those marks, close the bedroom door at night, and lean a cheap mirror that shows the latch if you cannot see the door from the pillow. Do not hang glass to face the mattress. A folding screen can break a kitchen view in a studio. Tie it back by day. Do not store their mattress in a hallway or on a stair. If you need your own bed, ask in writing whether they will store theirs. Until that email exists, sleep on the one in the room.

If you cannot sit like that, you still need a glance at the latch. Do not put the head in front of the bedroom door. In a studio, the door you unlock is both mouth and sleep door. Do not park their sofa in that swing so the bed "commands" a room that is also the hallway. Pick one job for tonight, sleep or sit, the same way how to start already asks you to finish one room.
Does furnished furniture carry leftover energy?
No. Joints hold glue and wear. Foam holds odor. Wipe hard surfaces, vacuum the cloth, and skip what stays stained. That is hygiene, not a ritual. Do not haul a listed piece to the curb as a spiritual eviction. You do not own it. The used furniture page is frame and smell when the piece is yours. This page is whether a landlord object may leave the walk.
A furnished rental does not need incense to pass. Open a window if the lease allows it. Put your own sheets on their mattress. Photograph stains on day one. Compass overlays can wait. A facing label will not fix a sofa in the swing. Do not rotate their dining set to hit a wealth gua while the latch still hits a chair.
What can you add without filling a room that already has a set?
Add only what you can take, and only after the inventory already works: a flat mat inside the leaf, a lamp you own if their overhead is a glare globe, a folding screen, felt, a key dish. Do not add a second sofa or nail a shelf into their plaster. The rental furniture page is the skip list for pieces you would buy. Tonight the skip is extra volume. If a listed table is missing and you need one, a folding table you take at move-out is honest.
Renter order of work
- Photograph the empty-enough unit and the inventory sheet.
- Open the door you use to 90 degrees. Name what sits in the swing.
- Sit on their sofa. Lie on their bed. Write command pass or fail.
- Walk with bags to the fridge and the bath.
- Shift only what the lease allows and what your back can move. Felt first.
- Hide or pad what cannot move. Do not add a second large object.
- Ask in writing only for pieces that truly have to leave. Keep the email.
- Photograph the result from the latch, then from the pillow, in FengShui Hero.
Write which line failed. One fail is enough work for tonight.
What this is not
It is not a paycheck spell and not a leftover-luck story. A sofa is a sofa. Move it because you live here.
It is not a clone of the first week rental article with nouns swapped. That page assumes the boxes are yours. This page assumes the set came with the keys.
It is not the rental furniture buying list, and it is not the whole renter guide. Finish the sheet first. Do not dump listed furniture, drill a closer, or rotate a bed off the latch for a heading. Shape still owns the night.
What should you do tonight?
Open the door you actually use, all the way. If a landlord sofa or chair sits in that pizza slice, slide it off the line if the lease allows a move. Felt under the feet. Sit on their sofa. Lie on their bed. If you cannot name the latch, shift that piece or add a reversible glance (a leaned mirror, a screen off the walk).
Photograph the inventory, the swing, and the pillow view. When the leaf opens, the walk takes grocery bags, and you can see who enters from the seat you actually use, the furnished audit is done.
